Stage Makeup with Ruby Slippers!

$80.00aud

Sorry, there are no classes scheduled at this time.

3 x 1 hour workshops over 3 weeks with Ruby Slippers!

Course Description

This course is designed for people new to stage makeup and wanting to expand their skill set to create dynamic stage looks that pack a punch! Over three weeks we’ll look at the basics of creating a strong base by sculpting the face, opening up the eyes, plus playing with colour and sparkle to make it pop!

Putting together a full complement of stage makeup can feel like a bit of a hefty investment, but a good selection of products will serve you well and make the task more pleasurable! A couple of things that I find make the task easier:

Spend your money on things like a great base - a strong foundation and setting powder makes all the difference (I use Kryolan supracolour which is extremely thick and full coverage - remember, this is stage makeup!)

MATTE colours for stage - we can add the sparkle later, but getting an eyeshadow palette with a lot of matte shades will make life easier. A great one to play with is the James Charles x Morphe palette, and you can grab yourself some great brushes for cheap too!

Good lighting! Kmart have ring lights for about $19 - they’re a great starter for getting a nice even light on the face while you work (and perfect for taking photos after/looking like a queen on your Zoom calls)

Something to secure your hair off your face, a wig cap is great

Week 1: Laying the base

We’ll use full coverage foundations, concealers and contours to sculpt the face, then look at how to set and build that base using powders, blush and highlighter. We’ll finish with a basic brow shape!

You will need:

Products: Full coverage liquid foundation, a concealer, cream contour, setting powder, powder contour, blush, highlighter, a brow pencil or pomade.

Brushes: Small and large foundation, concealer, large fluffy powder, contour powder, blush, highlight, small angled (for brows), plus a beauty blender/sponge (preferably a large and small one)

Week 2: Big Eyes

We’ll look at some techniques to open up the eye area for stage to add expression and drama, including brow coverage, priming the eyelid, liner application and cut creases.

You will need:

Products: non toxic glue stick (if you have fine brows) or prosaide (if you have a thicker brow), setting powder, liquid foundation, concealer, brow pencil or pomade, eye shadows (make sure you have a mix of dark and light matte shades), black liquid eyeliner, white eyeliner pencil, mascara

Brushes: cotton tips, Small and large foundation, concealer, large fluffy powder, small angled (for brows), plus a beauty blender/sponge (preferably a large and small one), a selection of eyeshadow brushes (I like to have a packing brush, blending brush, and a pencil brush at the minimum)

Week 3: Finishing it off!

Come with your brows blocked and re-drawn, and base (foundation, contour and highlight) all set in place. We’ll build up a dramatic eye shape with glitter and lashes, talk about rhinestone placement, and finish the face with blush, shimmer and lips!

NOTES ON GLITTER: If you have a deep coloured glitter, please ensure you have a shadow or lip product in the same or deeper shade - glitter is a highlight and intended to be be brighter than the colour it is sitting on top of. A great starter kit would be a clear iridescent for adding highlight, a holographic silver or gold to make the lid pop, and a red/pink/purple/your preferred lip colour!

Please also ensure you are using COSMETIC GRADE glitter - this is going to get all up in your eyes and mouth, so make sure you’re using the good stuff. My go-to is Glitter Au Go Go from Brisbane Burlesque babe Margeaux Le Gogo, her glitters are all plant based and nice and soft on your delicate bits!

You will need:

Products: non toxic glue stick (if you have fine brows) or prosaide (if you have a thicker brow), setting powder, liquid foundation, cream contour, setting powder, powder contour, blush, highlighter, concealer, brow pencil or pomade, eye shadows (make sure you have a mix of dark and light matte shades), black liquid eyeliner, white eyeliner pencil, mascara, cosmetic grade glitters, glitter glue (the BYS glitter primer from kmart is great), false lashes and glue, rhinestones in clear/ab, lipstick, setting spray.

Brushes: cotton tips, Small and large foundation, concealer, large fluffy powder, blush, contour, small angled (for brows), plus a beauty blender/sponge (preferably a large and small one), a selection of eyeshadow brushes (I like to have a packing brush, blending brush, and a pencil brush at the minimum), lip brush.
