Solo Burlesque Beginners Act Development Course

Course Description

Do you love Burlesque and want to learn the fundamentals of Burlesque character and act development? This is the course for you! This 6 week course will reveal your inner burlesque starlet! This course is designed to define your character, find your strengths, and help you create a solo burlesque performance ready for the stage!

We will supply you with a resource of burlesque classic tunes as well as guiding you through the important elements of this performance art, such as expression, characterisation, listening and using your music effectively, burlesque styling and costuming, the art of tease and of course how to perform burlesque on a stage.

Week 1: History of Burlesque and development of personal burlesque character

Week 2: A guide to act development

Week 3: Musicality, Movement & Striptease within a burlesque performance

Week 4: Burlesque Costuming, Burlesque Hair & Make-up guides

Week 5: Characterisation and Stage presence

Week 6: Backstage know-how - tech sheets, lighting and sound basics, stage crew and presentation of your Solo performance.

Be prepared to do a bit of homework for this course, as it all leads up to your solo debut. Be aware that like all burlesque performers, you will need to spend some money to create your costume, unless you are very resourceful!

This is not a dance course, it is a course based on performance, expression and the classic elements of burlesque, which make it into a performance art.

What to Wear

Notepad and pen. Comfortable clothes for relaxing in. This is not a dance course.

Restrictions

This course is open to all genders over the age of 18 years.

You do not need to have any previous experience in Burlesque performance before, but having done some burlesque dance courses previously will help you with the creation of your solo act as this is not a dance course.
